在奮起湖，把一盒鐵路便當留給山裡的中午 / A Fenqihu Mountain Pause, with a Railway Bento

下一次想去奮起湖，我想先不把老街排成一份必吃清單。先讓山路把步調降下來，再把中午留給一盒還沒打開的鐵路便當。這是寫在筆記裡的散步提案，不是我今天親自搭車、走到月台，或打開便當的紀錄。

For a future visit to Fenqihu, I would not turn the old street into a must-eat list. I would let the mountain lane slow the pace, then leave noon for a railway bento that is still closed. This is a walk planned in a notebook, not a record of riding there, standing on the platform, or opening a box today.

本文依阿里山國家風景區官網與三張不同年份的授權照片整理。照片讓我們看坡道、月台和便當盒的外形，卻不替今天的班次、天氣、店家或味道作證。家常做法只作為建議，不當成照片上那一盒的配方。

This piece draws on the Alishan National Scenic Area website and three licensed photographs from different years. The images let us look at a sloping lane, a platform and the shape of a bento box, but they do not establish today’s trains, weather, shops or flavors. Home-cooking notes are suggestions, not the recipe inside the photographed box.

先沿著坡道走 / Let the sloping lane set the pace

選用的老街照片是 2016 年 5 月 4 日拍的。畫面從高處往下看：左邊綠色帆布棚壓得很低，攤上有格子布和一排小物；右邊是窄排水溝、藍布和植株。行人往坡下走，遠端還有一截紅色屋瓦。我喜歡這種被棚架收住的日常；逛老街，不必先把招牌擦乾淨。

The selected old-street photograph was taken on 4 May 2016. The view looks downhill: a low green canvas awning on the left, a checked cloth and small goods on the stall; a narrow drain, blue cloth and plants on the right. People walk down the slope, and a stretch of red roof sits farther on. I like this everyday enclosure. An old street does not need its signs polished before it can be looked at.

阿里山國家風景區把奮起湖老街寫在嘉義縣竹崎鄉中和村，並說明房子依山勢而建、巷弄忽高忽低。該頁在 2026 年 10 月 22 日更新，列出每日 06:00 至 21:00 的開放時間、電話，以及從嘉義火車站轉公車、或由國道 3 號中埔交流道接台 18 線的走法。那是頁面上的資料，不是我當天核對過的班次或路況。

The Alishan National Scenic Area places Fenqihu Old Street in Zhonghe Village, Zhuqi Township, Chiayi County, and describes houses built along the slope, with lanes that rise and fall. That page, updated on 22 October 2026, lists daily hours from 06:00 to 21:00, a phone number, a bus change at Chiayi railway station, and a driving route from Freeway 3 at the Zhongpu interchange onto Provincial Highway 18. That is what the page says, not a timetable or road check I made on site.

月台先於便當 / The platform comes before the box

車站照片是 2025 年 12 月 11 日清晨拍的。右側是混凝土站房和伸出的雨遮，左側鐵軌在碎石上岔開，後方一座木造房子靠著滿山的樹。畫面裡沒有列車。晨光只說明拍攝當時的天色，不代表別的日子也是這樣亮，更不能拿來當下一班車的證據。

The station photograph was taken early on 11 December 2025. A concrete station building and its canopy occupy the right; tracks branch over gravel on the left; a wooden building sits against a forested hill. No train is in the frame. The morning light belongs to that exposure. It does not describe every other day, and it is not evidence of the next departure.

風景區英文頁把奮起湖放在海拔大約 1,400 公尺，並寫道：1912 年阿里山森林鐵路通車後，這裡曾是最大的中途整備站；運木與人員的列車常在中午前後停得比較久，加水加煤的空檔，養成了鐵路便當的習慣。我把這段當成路線的由來，不把它寫成某一家店今天仍照同一做法出餐。

The scenic area’s English page places Fenqihu at about 1,400 meters and says that after the Alishan Forest Railway opened in 1912, this was the largest intermediate servicing stop. Trains carrying timber and workers often paused longer around noon to take on water and coal, and that pause grew into the railway-bento habit. I am using that as the origin of the walk, not as proof that any one shop still plates food the same way today.

先看盒子，不猜味道 / Look at the box before guessing a flavor

便當照片是 2011 年 3 月 4 日拍的，盒子是蓋上的。紙盒上印著蒸汽火車和車站，兩支筷子斜綁在盒面，綠色橡皮筋交叉固定，底下是木桌。看得到的是包裝，不是菜色。我不替這張照片填上滷肉、蛋或菜脯，也不把盒面印刷字當成仍可讀的菜單。

The bento photograph was taken on 4 March 2011, and the box is closed. A steam locomotive and a station are printed on the paper lid; two chopsticks lie diagonally across it, held by crossed green rubber bands, on a wooden table. What is visible is the package, not the dishes. I will not fill this photograph with braised pork, egg or pickled radish, and I will not treat the printed marks as a readable menu.

若在家想做一份能帶出門的熱飯，我會把手法和這張舊照分開。米飯煮得略乾，掀蓋散一下表面的蒸氣再蓋上，比較不會在封閉的盒子裡結成一塊。配菜若有酥的和濕的，分開裝，到要吃時再併。筷子和橡皮筋是照片裡的攜帶方式，不是調味步驟。這是家常建議，不是奮起湖任何一家的配方，也不是我吃過之後的紀錄。

If I wanted a hot rice box to carry at home, I would keep the method separate from this old photograph. I would cook the rice a little drier, lift the lid to let surface steam escape, then close it, so the rice is less likely to set into one lump. Crisp items and wet items would travel apart and meet only at the table. Chopsticks and rubber bands are a carrying method in the photograph, not a seasoning step. This is a home suggestion, not a Fenqihu vendor’s recipe and not a record of something I have eaten.

把三張照片放回同一條想像的路上：先是 2016 年的坡道，再是 2025 年沒有列車的月台，最後是 2011 年還沒打開的紙盒。小幸福若有，也只是把中午留白，不急著把盒子說成一種味道。

Set the three photographs back on one imagined route: the 2016 slope, then the 2025 platform with no train in the frame, then the 2011 paper box still closed. If there is a small happiness here, it is only the unfilled noon, not a flavor assigned to the box.
